CHRISTMAS VODKA

by Sherbhert Editor

Drink this neat, with some ice, or add it to sparkling wine to make a special festive drink.

This recipe will make a little less than 1 litre.

You will need a *sterilised glass bottle with a well-fitting cap, a sieve, a square of muslin (approx.20cmx20cm)

1 litre Vodka – the cheapest kind will do

300g Mixed dried fruit

150g Caster sugar or granulated sugar

Zest of one orange

2 Cinnamon sticks

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.

Cover the bowl and leave in a cool place for three days stirring once each day to help the sugar dissolve.

Strain the liquid into a jug, through a sieve lined with muslin. Ideally the liquid needs to be crystal clear so you may want to strain it twice.

Pour through a funnel into a sterilised bottle.

This will keep for at least a year – probably more.

*To sterilise glass bottles and jars: –

Preheat the oven to 120c.

Wash the jars or bottles and lids in hot soapy water then rinse them in clean water.

Put them on a clean baking tray and put the tray in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to sterilise them.

Remove the tray from the oven and cover with a clean tea towel until they have cooled down. Use them the same day.
